WARNING:

You may want to use gloves to mitigate any risk of cuts. This project should only be attempted with adult supervision and adequate training. The container is only as good as you make it. Do not use to store reactive chemicals. Use of this video content is at your own risk.

Project History & More Info:

I’ve had a chemical experiment I’ve wanted to demonstrate for awhile that could be used for hiking, biking or survival situations. The container I made, originally, was made of glass. I thought it was a neat idea, but when I told my dad about it, he suggested hikers would probably prefer something more lightweight. I think he was right.

When I saw the idea for joining two bottle caps together, I knew it was the perfect solution.

I modified the idea slightly by using a hotel key as a divider to create 2 separate compartments, and sealed everything together with a 2 part epoxy. Now two items can be stored inside without much risk of them mixing, or leaking.

The container weighs a mere 0.5 oz, unscrews from both ends, and is completely waterproof. I’ve been really happy with this quick and easy project, and already made 5 of them to store items in my emergency kit. You’ll see what I put inside mine in an upcoming project video 🙂
