What The Batman Sequel Could Look Like

Welp, the Caped Crusader has finally arrived back on our screens courtesy of Matt Reeves’ noir-influenced take on the Dark Knight, and boy howdy we are PUMPED for whatever comes next in this dark new continuity. So! Let’s take a look at what that future might have in store for us. Amongst these, we’ll take a moment to point out the confirmed future prospects for this continuity. All of this COULD still change, but — there are shows currently being worked on post-Batman. Considering it’s a big success critically and financially, seems like those are pretty much good to go. One is the Penguin spinoff starring and produced by Colin Farrell who I guess… just really likes sweating his butt off under prosthetics. Seeing as The Batman ends with the city flooding and a massive power vacuum in the wake of both that and the death of Carmine Falcone, it looks like the stage is set for Penguin’s rise to power in, I dunno, like an eight episode prestige HBO Max series. I’m into it. That interrogation scene with Os, Gordon, and Batman was borderline perfection — and a lot of that is down to Farrell’s performance. And the Penguin’s high school Spanish teacher or whatever. The other series is a Gotham PD spinoff.

Also, multiple peeps pointed out that the gang member going through his initiation is played by Jay Lycurgo — who is also in Titans, where he plays Tim Drake, aka… one of Batman’s many young, mentally scarred wards who’ve gone by the name Robin. Could it be that this young, impressionable dude is gonna turn his moral allegiances around and turn into the first Robin within this particular universe? In an interview, Lycurgo did mention that he shot his role in The Batman long before he even read for Drake, so chances are there’s nothing there beyond some light synchronicity. HOWEVER, there’s more than just that weird bit of casting to suggest a future Robin. Pattinson himself has expressed interest in getting himself a ward, specifically stating “Yeah, but he has to be 13. That’s the only way I’ll accept it. No, I love Death in the Family and stuff, but I think it’d be so cool. Also people are so scared of it, but it’s kind of exciting. I think it would be a really fun addition.” Of course this is R-Patz we’re talking about, so that could just be him, bored, joking around in an interview. He’s a bit of a wild card that way. Of course, this then suggests that MAYBE the son of the deceased Mayor could wind up being the new Robin.
