[iPhone 12 Pro Cinematic Road Trip]

There’s much more to a smartphone than its camera – but these days, the camera is usually the component that changes the most between generations. So when I plucked Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro out of its curiously thin box on Saturday, the first thing I wanted to test was its updated camera – and the same duo of Davids who helped me test the LG Wing were down to clown in another town! So join me for a look at the City of Brotherly Love, from the Liberty Bell to the SS United States, as seen through the lens of the Apple iPhone 12 Pro.

LG Wing Review: Phones Are Fun Again

Sponsored by Surfshark. Get Surfshark VPN at https://surfshark.deals/mrmobile and enter promo code MRMOBILE for 83% off and 3 FREE months!

[LG Wing Review]

The LG Wing is just the kind of phone I’d feature on an episode of my “When Phones Were Fun” throwback series … if it hadn’t just debuted this month! Yes, while the Wing mimics the form factor of 2008’s VX9400, it’s very much a product of 2020, from its 5G chipset to its mammoth OLED displays to its surprisingly innovative Swivel Camera mode. In fact, reviewing the LG Wing was the most fun I’ve had reviewing an LG product since I started this channel – and not just because it involved wine tasting, either!

Still, $999 is no small sum, and the LG Wing isn’t a flagship so much as it is an experiment – a fact that becomes apparent when you look a little closer at the footage coming out of that special camera. To learn more, join me for MrMobile’s LG Wing Review!

Pixel 5 Review: The Google Phone Grows Up

At four years old, Google’s Pixel smartphone family has been around long enough that even non-geeks probably know the basics: the Pixel is made by Google; it’s got a world-class camera; and physically speaking, the phone’s color is usually the most interesting thing about it.

The Google Pixel 5, launching this month, doesn’t change any of these things – but it does correct for the compromise that’s always gone hand-in-hand with the brand. Whether it’s price, or battery life, or giant bathtub-sized notches … there’s always been something about the Pixel that’s given me pause when friends ask if they should buy one. With the Pixel 5, those compromises have (mostly) been eliminated. That doesn’t mean Google can afford to rest on its laurels, but it does mean that the Pixel 5 will rank high on my list of recommendations this holiday season.

Ticwatch Pro 3 Review: Wear OS Finally Works!

The TicWatch Pro 3 GPS looks an awful lot like the last TicWatch Pro from Mobvoi – and the one before that, too. But don’t let appearances fool you: the Mobvoi TicWatch 3 is the first smartwatch to carry Qualcomm’s newest system-on-a-chip designed specifically for wearables, the Snapdragon Wear 4100. Specs still matter on smartwatches much more so than on smartphones, and that 4100 combines with a generous 1GB of RAM to make the TicWatch 3 the most performant smartwatch Wear OS has ever seen.

When you factor in the innovative dual-layer display and battery life heretofore unseen on a Google-powered wearable … you get the best Wear OS smartwatch of 2020. Join Michael Fisher for a two-week test drive featuring the smartwatch that fixed Wear OS, in MrMobile’s Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 Review!

Cell Tower In A Suitcase: How Sonim’s “Rapid Deployment Kit” Saves Lives

[CELL SITE IN A SUITCASE: SONIM RDK WITH FIRSTNET HANDS-ON]

Cell towers. Over the last thirty years they’ve become so commonplace that you probably don’t even notice them anymore – but without them, your smartphone would be nothing but a WiFi tablet. In past videos I’ve shown you how cell sites can be hidden in plain sight in places like church steeples, or built to withstand the worst weather in North America at the top of a mountain. Today, I’m gonna show you how a cell tower can be packed into a suitcase … and how doing so can help save lives.

Join me for another MrMobile “hands-on” (that’s really more of a trunkload)
as I take the Sonim Rapid Deployment Kit-3 out to the end of Long Island in search of cellular coverage thin enough to justify using a satellite 22,500 miles away. The RDK3 is a cell site in a suitcase, and today’s video is all about how it joins forces with a BGAN from Cobham and service from AT&T FirstNet to keep first responders connected in the worst of times.

Motorola Razr 5G Review: This Is My Next Phone

It’s a tired trope of the tech world to say that “the sequel is what version one should have been.” But in the case of one of the most famous brands in mobile phone history, you can’t help but wonder what might have happened if last year’s Motorola Razr … had been the Motorola Razr 2020 instead.

In last week’s Motorola Razr 2020 Hands-On I took you through the differences between the Razr 5G and its 2019 predecessor, so you already know that the spec sheet upgrades and hardware tweaks Motorola made to modernize this model … well, they worked. The Razr 2020 / Razr 5G feels less like a first-generation folding phone, more like a fully-realized fashion flip phone – and that added polish now puts it within striking distance of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip.

Those improvements are more than enough to make me commit to the Motorola Razr 5G as one of my two everyday-carry devices for 2020 – but $1399.99 is a lot to spend for anyone who doesn’t have a device-review budget. Is the Razr 2020 good enough for you to finally cross the foldable phone divide? Find out in MrMobile’s Motorola Razr 5G Review!

Surface Duo Review: Double Trouble

Sponsored by Surfshark. Get Surfshark VPN at https://surfshark.deals/mrmobile and enter promo code MRMOBILE for 83% off and 3 FREE months!

[SURFACE DUO REVIEW]

What if a Microsoft Surface could fit in your pocket? That’s the question Microsoft has been asking (in some form or another) since well before the Surface brand ever hit the mainstream. From a marketing perspective, it’s a good narrative – better to lean on one of the company’s most successful consumer brands than risk invoking the dreaded carcass of “Windows Phone.” And enough companies have dipped their toe in the waters between smartphone and laptop over the years to suggest that maybe there’s some potential there – Samsung’s recent experiments with foldables being the most obvious example.

The trouble with forging new paths into uncharted product categories, though, is that you need both clarity of concept and excellence in execution. The Surface Duo, like all first-generation products, is at the moment lacking in the latter category – and that shortcoming can be felt in almost every interaction with the device. Does that mean the Duo should be put back onto the dusty shelf alongside the Courier and the Kin? Absolutely not … but it does mean that those considering investing $1399 in one of these wafer-thin experimental gadgets should do so only if they’re the most devoted of Microsoft fans.

I’m MrMobile and I’ve spent two weeks with Microsoft’s first mobile device since 2015. Join me for the Surface Duo Review!
