[MOTOROLA RAZR 2023 REVIEW]

It is, for better or worse, that time of year. To take in the holiday decorations; to celebrate the milestones of the past three hundred-some-odd days; to share a good meal, a few drinks, and a round of pool with friends new and old. In other words, it’s time to be present. To stay in the moment, instead of in your messages; to feed your soul instead of scrolling the feed. And if you don’t have the will to do that yourself, Motorola has just the phone for you – with an app to help you unplug; a design to help you shut down; and a camera … well, a camera so bad you’ll almost never want to use it. Join MrMobile for the Motorola Razr 2023 Review!

Google Pixel 8 Pro + Pixel Watch 2: The Whole Package?

[GOOGLE PIXEL 8 PRO REVIEW / GOOGLE PIXEL WATCH 2 REVIEW]

It took me seven weeks and two trips to tropical microchip conferences to figure out what to say about the new Google Phone … and even then, I had to rope in its sibling smartwatch and earbud buddies to summon anything of substance. Why? Well, as Daniel Bader said on a recent episode of the Android Police podcast about those microchips:

“Talking about these things is the equivalent of talking about drying paint.”

It’s not because they’re not impressive – in fact he was making the opposite point: that mobile silicon has gotten so good across the board that comparing it is ultimately futile if you’re talking to a mainstream audience. And folks: with smartphone reviews, we’re getting to the same exact point!

The Google Pixel 8 Pro lasts all day. Its display is bright. Its speakers are loud. It “feels good,” as they say, “in the hand.” It’s nearly everything a high-end smartphone should be, offered at a competitive price. To quote the Dismemberment Plan: “WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO SAAAAYYYYYY?”

And that’s good news for the Pixel 8 Pro! Two years after the risky reinvention of the Pixel line, Google has blended boring iteration with buzzworthy innovation to produce a phone that’s easy to recommend. But when you zoom out to include the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Buds Pro that complete the Google mobile ecosystem in 2023 … well, the Pixels get a bit fuzzier. Join me for the MrMobile Google Pixel 8 Pro Review / Pixel Watch 2 Review!

[ABOUT THIS VIDEO]

This review was produced following approximately two months with Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Buds Pro review samples, all provided by Google.

HP Spectre Fold Review: Dragging The PC Into The Future

[HP SPECTRE FOLD REVIEW]

The first laptop computer hit the market over forty years ago, and ever since then, we’ve been shackled to the slow evolution of the same core conceit: screen up top; keyboard down low; hinge in between. Yahoo.

Well, it only took one encounter with a flexible display to convince me that the future of computing would be foldable. The Lenovo X1 Fold and ASUS Zenbook Fold pioneered the notion of a laptop that could become a portable desktop, and today, HP is flexing its own multi-modal PC that’s sleeker and more mature than anything that’s come before – at a price that guarantees you’ll never see one out in public. This is MrMobile’s HP Spectre Fold Review.

[ABOUT THIS VIDEO]

This review was produced following five weeks with a Spectre Fold review sample provided by HP.

Finally, Smart Glasses That Don’t Look Dumb: Meta Ray-Ban Review

[META SMART GLASSES BY RAY-BAN REVIEW]

Some might say there are already too many cameras out in the world, that adding a camera to a set of sunglasses is at best superfluous, and at worst creepy.

But the first time I put these Ray-Bans on, I was reminded of a quote that Parts Unknown producer Tom Vitale shared from the late Anthony Bourdain, who “often talked about how, in an ideal world, he wouldn’t be in [his own] show. It would [instead] be his point of view, like a camera moving through space, without having to see him at all.”

To be clear: I’m not sure Bourdain would have given up his beloved Persols for anything, let alone a Meta-made piece of wearable tech. But these smart glasses offer such a refined experience that even the Facebook-fatigued should give them a gander. They’re a hybrid of wearable camera and open-ear headphones, blended into a body a little bigger (and pricier) than your regular Ray-Bans, powered by an augmented-reality chipset from Qualcomm called the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1. The company gave me a review sample at its annual Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, and after just a few hours wearing them, I didn’t wanna take ‘em off.

[MRMOBILE’S FAVORITE IPHONE 15 ACCESSORIES]

As another Techtober takes another year off my life, and the notion of a video “review” on YouTube continues to evolve, I hope to start talking more about not just single products on this channel, but how those products can bring more value to people by working together.

I’m already working on videos that will talk about how different brands try to accomplish this with their various ecosystems. But Apple, thanks to its sheer scale, has an additional advantage that I’ve envied for most of the 13 years I’ve been an Android user: a rich constellation of accessories made just for the iPhone. Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to get to know a few companies that make really great stuff for the iPhone, and for this video, I’ve rounded up my personal favorites.

OnePlus Open Review: The Cure For The Common Foldable

Sponsored by Surfshark VPN. Go to https://Surfshark.deals/mrmobile – Enter promo code MRMOBILE for 83% off and 3 extra months for free!

[ONEPLUS OPEN REVIEW]

In the rarefied, near-$2000 air of the ultra-high-end US foldable market, Americans have only ever had two options: the super skinny Samsung Galaxy Fold … or the pudgy, peculiar Google Pixel Fold.

Today, into that obvious “Opening” comes the most compelling device from OnePlus I’ve ever covered: a large-format foldable that rides like a regular phone when it’s closed, with a refreshing take on multitasking when it’s open … and a camera that finally lives up to its colossal casing.

I’m Michael Fisher and I’ve been daily-driving a Galaxy Fold since … well, since the first one! But I think the OnePlus Open may well be my next phone.

[ABOUT THIS VIDEO]

This video was produced following three weeks with a OnePlus Open review sample provided by OnePlus. Pre-production sample running pre-release software. The device received one software update during the review process, and was evaluated based upon version CPH2551_13.2.0.9(EX01).

OnePlus hosted a press event in New York City for the OnePlus Open pre-briefing, which included a camera-testing boat excursion during which food and drink were provided.

Inside The OnePlus Open – And The Machines That Torture It [Exclusive]

You could say OnePlus flew me halfway around the world to show me a phone … but it would be more accurate to say the company brought me to China so I could see what’s inside that phone. Today on MrMobile: an exclusive first look at the hardware inside the OnePlus Open — and the factory full of machines trying their best to break it!

[ABOUT THIS VIDEO]

Oppo Find N3 Flip Review: Missed Oppo-tunity

Sponsored by DeleteMe. Take back control of your personal information: visit https://JoinDeleteMe.com/MrMobile and use code MRMOBILE for 20% off!

[OPPO FIND N3 FLIP REVIEW]

Back in February, Oppo shook up the flip phone landscape with a little clamshell that packed a big standout: a cover display that, for the time, was the biggest you could find on a flip. When I factored in the better-than-average camera and the huge battery, the Find N2 Flip convinced me that Oppo had “found” its place in foldables.

But that, as they say, was then. Scarcely eight months after that phone launched in Europe, the Oppo Find N3 Flip adds another camera and a new side switch to a familiar, similarly slippery chassis. But the one thing Oppo could have done – the one thing I think it had to do, to face down its 2023 competition? It hasn’t yet.

[ABOUT THIS VIDEO]

This review was produced following several weeks with a Find N3 Flip review sample provided by Oppo. The review was based on ColorOS software version CPH2519_13.2.0.103(EX01). The device was tested on T-Mobile and Tello Mobile in several states across the Eastern US.

[iPHONE 15 PRO MAX – THE WINNINGEST iPHONE]

Let me be straight with ya: there are fifteen other devices on my desk that excite me more than Apple’s latest silver slab. That’s because I chose a business that satisfies my predilection for novelty – and folding phones, retro recorders, and laptops that unfold into mobile workstations are much better at stoking that fire than predictable, pragmatic progression.

But that same safe iteration is what’s made the iPhone the Must-Have Device for most folks in the US who aren’t like me – normal folks who see their phone as an un-sexy necessity, like a toaster oven. Sure, Android still dominates the smartphone space globally, but beneath those anodyne metrics of percentage points traded to and fro, Americans of means long ago reached a cruel consensus: “the default phone” is the one with the fruit on the back, and the telltale blue text bubbles that come along with it. As someone who prefers diversity in devices, I don’t like it (and I don’t carry an iPhone myself) … but at this point it’s stupid to try to refute it.

So three weeks after I picked up my review device, it’s time to wrap up my three-video arc on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with a look at why it’s winning … and where it still has a ways to go.

[ABOUT THIS VIDEO]

This is the third in a series of videos featuring the iPhone 15 Pro Max, produced following three weeks with an iPhone 15 Pro Max review sample provided by Apple. The device received an OTA during the review process, to version iOS 17.0.3.
