After a quick stop to enjoy the scenic Verde River, the convoy fired up the dust lights, climbed a set of silty switchbacks that were once a narrow-gauge railroad, and descended into the Gold King Mine to make camp for the night. Overland Adventure 2020 kicked off as the convoy left the pavement behind and filed into the Hassayampa River canyon. Numerous water crossings, picturesque rock walls, and a hair-raising hillclimb were all in store for the adventurers before they reached camp at the Gold Bar Ranch.
