[WHEN PHONES WERE FUN: NOKIA’S PUREVIEW PHONES]
I’ll always remember waking up in Boston that February day in 2012, loading up a tech blog to check the news from Mobile World Congress … and instantly wishing I were with my then-colleagues at Pocketnow in Barcelona. Because the first thing I saw was a hands-on video featuring a phone with a spec that just had to be a typo: a 41-megapixel camera!
Nokia’s 808 PureView was a daring concept device that shook the world of mobile photography – and when the Nokia Lumia 1020 debuted the following year, with even more stunning features and running the latest build of Windows Phone, it forever changed how we would take photos on the go.
Join Michael Fisher for a journey back in time, before the collapse and sale of Nokia; before the failure of Windows Phone; before anyone knew what “computational photography” was all about. On this episode of MrMobile’s “When Phones Were Fun” we’re taking a look back at the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Nokia 808 PureView!

[ABOUT WHEN PHONES WERE FUN – THE PUREVIEW PHONES]
This is the 21st in a series of MrMobile videos exploring the mobile tech world’s most vibrant period in design and experimentation. In “When Phones Were Fun,” Michael Fisher re-reviews cellphones from the golden age of mobile, the decade-long span from the turn of the century to approximately 2013.
When Phones Were Fun: Episode 21 was made possible by a Nokia 808 PureView loaned by friend of the channel Brad Molen (thanks Brad!). It also features a Nokia Lumia 1020 purchased by MrMobile’s publisher, and several Windows Phones donated by Charles Goin (thanks Charles!).
MrMobile does not offer manufacturers the opportunity to preview, edit or approve content before publication. Neither Nokia nor Microsoft provided compensation in exchange for this coverage. The lone sponsor of this video is Frame.io.
