Speed running is simply trying to finish the game as fast as you can. This simple concept has evolved into a full on sub genre of gaming. Today, any game can be speed run. Racing games, fighting games, shooters, you name it, people have tried to speed run it in a variety of ways. There are any percent speed runs where the goal is just to get to the end the fastest. There are games which have been beat in minutes due to exploits and cheats which were discovered after years of meticulously going through the game. Sometimes a gamer can complete a new world record or a new personal best using these exploits no problem, getting a consistently good time.
However, sometimes, whether it is the randomness of the game itself or because of an unlucky break on the player, speed runs go sour. Sometimes it happens early in a game and other times it can happen hours into a playthrough, those are the most crushing.
