Behold: the newest “car phone” is here!

No, I don’t mean the car phone from the 80s – I’m talking about the product of the same collaborations that gave us the BMW Motorola Timeport of the 1990s; the Pininfarina Nextel i833 of the mid-oughts; and the Porsche Design BlackBerry and Huawei phones from the 20-teens!

Truth be told, I found those earlier efforts mostly forgettable – because the phones they focused on were already standouts in design and capability, from brands well-established in their respective spaces. But Honor is another story entirely: a company that’s been trying to make a splash since 2016, but which has been held back by circumstances both within and beyond its control.

So as Honor begins offering its groundbreaking super-slim Honor Magic V2 foldable to European buyers, teaming up with German design legend Porsche Design makes all the sense on the continent. (It’s just a shame all its design wins are only skin-deep.)
