The cruelest truth in technology is that being better doesn’t always mean being the winner. Almost twenty years ago my uncle gave me one of the best pieces of technology I’ve ever owned – a product that still sells for over two hundred dollars on eBay despite the fact that the format it’s built on has been dead for years. Before Spotify, before the iPod, there was the MiniDisc Player – a product ahead of its time. This is the MrMobile Retro Review.

MrMobile’s MiniDisc Retro Review was produced following a week with a Sony MZ-R37 MiniDisc Player from 1999. The filming device was purchased from eBay, while the bulk of the MiniDiscs are from MrMobile’s teenage collection.
