Marvel Theory: Doctor Strange’s Main Goal Was Destroying The Infinity Stones

In 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, Doctor Strange told Tony Stark and the other heroes on Titan that he’d used the Time Stone to look into the future, in order to view 14,000,605 possible outcomes to the conflict against Thanos.

Strange said that only one of them ended with the heroes of the MCU coming out on top. But was there more to it than that?

As an audience, we immediately assumed the one future Strange referred to was, quite literally, the ONLY way to stop the Mad Titan – but there’s a theory that his focus wasn’t actually on Thanos at all. Maybe his focus was on the fate of the Infinity Stones.

There might have been several futures in which the heroes won, but only one in which they both won AND in which the Infinity Stones were destroyed – and THAT was what Strange needed to happen.

This theory is based on the idea that the Infinity Stones attract evil-doers – Thanos, Red Skull, Loki, Malekith, Ronan and Ultron, to name but a few – and the Mind Stone in particular corrupts people.

Essentially, the stones are dangerous – and there are more than enough valid reasons for people on the side of good to not want each one of them to exist any more.
