Make an Emergency Phone Charger – MacGyver Style!

In this video, you’ll learn how to “MacGyver” a 40 Watt Electrical Generator from a cordless drill and a few household items. Here’s how to charge your phone, illuminate small lights, and make electricity in a pinch.

Kipkay’s video charging a phone with a crank flashlight http://youtu.be/Z_JI2Rvdzqs

WARNING:

This project is intended to be a “bare bones” approach to generating electricity in a tight situation. There are no voltage regulators, no diodes and no capacitors to smooth the current. There may a risk in charging lithium-ion batteries without a proper battery charging circuit recommended by the manufacturer. It worked fine for me, but if you try this on your phone, make sure you understand, and are comfortable, with the risks. Back up your data in case your phone is adversely affected and your data or equipment is damaged as a result. Use of this video content is at your own risk.By running an electric motor backwards, you can generate electricity.

Project History & More Info:

When using a cordless drill, remove the battery pack so you’re not fighting the back EMF, and press the trigger button in to allow the electrical connection to be made. Now all you have to do is twist the rotating end of the drill, and you’ll be generating electricity at the contact points where the battery would normally connect. On my drill, a cranking speed of 100 RPM yielded about 5 volts DC.

A few household items will make it practical to use. For example, a crank handle (made from a mixing beater and a salad fork) will give better leverage for cranking. Some aluminum foil that’s been rolled up into a wire will help direct the electricity to the point of use.

The faster and harder you can crank the drill, the higher voltage, and more amperage you can extract.

Ideally, this could be hooked up to a bike, water power, or a windmill to generate effortless energy, and if done carefully, the energy could be stored in a battery for later use.

As if we got a hold of bumblebee himself, the current generation Camaro is quite a giant leap forward for the brand versus the previous generation. Offering better ride and handling over the Ford Mustang, we think the Camaro could be a winner if Chevy reduced the weight and addressed the visibility issues.

2013 Ford Taurus Limited Review, Walkaround, Exhaust, Test Drive

Despite unstable gas prices, American’s love big vehicles. Full-size sedans still represent a good chunk of sales, Ford’s Taurus has been playing in the category since 2008 and for 2013, it gets a nice refresh. Our personal favorite is without a doubt, the high performance SHO model but for those of you on a stricter budget, we actually find the 2.0T engine to be a better suit for this car, not to mention the best in class MPG numbers.

Like us on Facebook @ http://www.Facebook.com/2Redline Hyundai’s current generation Elantra has been quite the sales success for the brand like it’s big brother Sonata. We think it’s the best Elantra yet, a few minor tweaks here and there could make it best in class. For 2013 a new coupe and hatchback is now available, perhaps the next step should be a turbo version?

Thought I’d bring you all this 128i which I spotted at the auction. 1 Series has been praised for being a nimble & fun driving machine. Theres little to flaw about this Bimmer other than it’s cramped back seat & it’s design being somewhat long on the tooth as it hasn’t been refreshed since introduction. Remains identical for 2013 & still does a great job looking sexy but the question is, does BMW have anything along the pipeline for the 1-Series? Hopefully, we’ll find out soon enough as the 1-Series practically is a class of it’s own.

The ugly stick had quite an effect on Acura’s once best-selling TL. Thankfully, the company has done a great job with refining the look to bring back customers scared away by the controversial styling. Once you get past the exterior, you will find a comfortable, roomy, refined, and tech laden cabin that will have most shoppers quite impressed. If you are in the market for a spacious, sport luxury sedan with strong value, this TL should be at the top of your list.

2001 Lexus IS300 Review, Walkaround, Exhaust, Test Drive

The original first attempt at a true RWD sport sedan from Lexus, the IS300. We think it was a great first effort and the brand has done a good job with the succeeding generations. If you are in the market for a used sport sedan and don’t mind a cramped interior, this vehicle should be at the top of your list. Those of you seeking more power and space should check out the Acura TL and Infiniti G35.
