Fysikshow “Liquid nitrogen bottle rockets!” If you check out their video, please leave them a comment that you came from Grant Thompson’s channel and that I gave them credit for the idea 🙂 Thank you! (http://bit.ly/IBNitrogenRocket)

WARNING: Do not attempt. The bottles occasionally blow up in your hand, or cause $170 in property damage.

PLEASE NOTE: This experiment is mainly for demonstrational purposes and should probably not be duplicated. There is risk of bottles exploding in your hands or face, and liquid nitrogen itself has inherent dangers that could mess you up as well. Use of this video content is at your own risk.

Project History & More Info:

You are probably familiar with the common water rocket experiment, that uses built up air pressure in a soda bottle to push water out the bottom and shoot the rocket into the sky.

Manually pumping air into a soda bottle takes time and effort, so when I saw a video on YouTube where a guy used liquid nitrogen instead, it blew my mind, and I had to try it.

I have a friend who built his own liquid nitrogen generator and was itching to try this experiment ever since he saw the same video I did. He came over with a few liters in a dewar and we filled up plastic soda bottles about half way with warm water, then poured liquid nitrogen in next.

The liquid nitrogen floats on top of the water, but boils ferociously because of the extreme temperature difference. When the bottle is inverted, the rapidly expanding gas instantly charges the bottle with pressure and forces the water out the bottom, blasting the bottle high into the sky.

I was absolutely blown away by how quickly the reaction takes place, and by how much power is present.

My friend had one bottle blow up in his hand while he was experimenting with different nozzle sizes, so needless to say, this experiment is potentially very dangerous, and is intended for demonstrational purposes only.

For those of you wondering, the replacement cost on my kitchen window was $170.00.

For science!!

As the halo vehicle for the Acura/Honda brand, the first generation NSX is already on its way to becoming a future classic. When it was first introduced in 1991, it was simply well ahead of its time and this Japanese super car forced Italian and German super cars to step up their game in terms of quality, usability, and reliability. If you’ve always wanted an Acura NSX, now could be the time to finally get one, that is… if you can even find an owner willing to give it up.

A chemical experiment I saw by the famous YouTube chemist, NurdRage “4 ways to make fire without matches by using chemistry”: (If you check out this video, please leave him a comment that you came from Grant Thompson’s channel and that I gave him credit for the idea 🙂 Thank you! (http://bit.ly/NRGlycerinFire)

WARNING:

This project involves chemicals that can stain, burn, and damage your skin. KMnO4 should not be ingested, and can be fatal if swallowed. This experiment is mainly for demonstrational purposes and should only be attempted with adult supervision and adequate training. Use of this video content is at your own risk.

Project History & More Info:

I took the classic science demonstration of using Glycerin and KMnO4, and played with the idea of using it as an alternate starter for survival situations. As it turns out, each chemical can be valuable for survival situations on it’s own. But mix them together and you get the added benefit of starting a fire, even if your matches are wet.

I’ve wanted to demonstrate this chemical experiment for years. It is fairly common and there are plenty of demonstrations already on YouTube, but is always shown the same way .. someone mixing the two chemicals together on a plate or dish.

I wanted to see if this reaction could be used for something more practical, so I took it to the woods and experimented with survival fires.

For the container, I used the soda cap containers I made in a previous project: (http://bit.ly/SodaCapContainer). These are lightweight, and keep the chemicals well separated, as long as they are made correctly. But beware, there could be great danger and big messes to clean up using poorly made containers!

This idea could be used for hiking, biking or survival situations. The little packs are lightweight and hold enough chemicals to start 2-4 fires each.

When the two chemicals spontaneously combust, they throw off a beautiful pink and purple flame. Most impressively, the reaction can still work even if the mixture is wet.

2014 Honda Civic Coupe – Redline: Review

After an emergency refresh last year, Honda shocks us yet again with another thorough round of changes to its popular Civic compact car. This time, the coupe gets a completely re-done front fascia, updated wheels, and new tech features inside the cabin. Under the hood, we find a bit more power and a new automatic transmission bringing the Civic up to par with its top rivals in this extremely competitive class. Are the changes enough to make this car feel new?

This video is an attempt to explain Twitch.tv to those who don’t understand videogame streaming better than BBC Newsnights feature on the subject, which drew hostility from a great deal of people due to its condescending and misleading approach.
