Driving A Hydrogen Car: Is This Really “The Future?”

Every time I shoot a video featuring a battery-electric car, someone in the comments pops up to say “you know, the REAL future is hydrogen cars.” The thing is, to drive a hydrogen fuel cell car you need to live near hydrogen fueling stations … and the closest one to my home in Boston is 2,547 miles away. So when I was in San Francisco last week, I called up the fine folks at Toyota and asked them to put me behind the wheel of the Toyota Mirai (which is Japanese for “future,” by the by). Before I knew, it I was hurtling down the highway in Toyota’s FCV, leaving nothing behind me but water. It’s not the freshest news on the block, but still I thought it was a great opportunity to share some details on how hydrogen cars work, why they’re cool … and why I also think they’re probably not the future.... Blue Yeti Nano Review: Your Favorite Microphone Just Got Better

If you’ve watched even a few YouTube videos featuring a host talking to the camera, then you’ve probably laid eyes on a Blue Yeti microphone. This iconic desktop capsule carried me through four years of podcasts and voiceovers back at Pocketnow, and about the only things I found to complain about were its size and weight. So when Blue announced its smaller and lighter sequel just before the IFA 2018 trade show, I knew what I was using for voiceovers in Berlin. I’m Michael Fisher, and the Blue Yeti Nano might just be your next desktop microphone; this is the MrMobile review.... Read More | Share it now!

The “Universal Translator” Is Real – But Is It Too Late?

Of all the cool gadgets in Star Trek, one of the least-appreciated is the universal translator, which lets the crew of the Enterprise –or Voyager, or Discovery– talk to pretty much anyone through their communicators. So when I heard there was a real-world version called the Travis Touch, I jumped on it faster than you can say “open hailing frequencies.” I wasn’t able to give it the full review treatment, but I did take it to Germany and Sweden (where I found out how bad my Swedish pronunciation is) and I’ve got some thoughts. Join me for the Travis Touch Hands-On, and check out the link to the Indiegogo campaign below if you think a Travis Touch is a good match for you.... Read More | Share it now!

Mercedes EQC: Hands-On With The ‘Anti-Tesla’ SUV

Earlier this year Mercedes-Benz let me sit behind the wheel of the most futuristic electric car I had ever seen. But the “Concept EQ” was just what you’d expect: a concept. So when Mercedes invited me to swing on over to Stockholm to check out the real version coming to market next year, I hopped the first sailboat I could find. This is the Mercedes-Benz EQC400, a crossover SUV with an all-electric power plant, an all-Mercedes fit-and-finish … and a spec sheet that’s already stirring up a few mixed feelings. Join me for a first look at one of the first electric SUVs to take on Tesla in a big way.... Read More | Share it now!
