[ASUS ZENBOOK PRO DUO REVIEW]

Whenever a tech company tries something really different, there’s always a cadre of killjoys in the comments. “But how praaaaactical is it?” “But what prooooblems is it trying to sooooolve?” “What. Is. The. Point?” Make YouTube videos long enough, and the constant onslaught of negativity is enough to get anyone down.

But you know what? That kind of skepticism is not a bad thing. The fact is, you should be alert to gimmicks. You should want real utility for your money, not just a buzzworthy toy to drool over.

The nice thing: every once in a while, a company manages to give us both at the same time. Today’s review covers the ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo. (“Duo” because of its *dual* 4K touchscreen displays!) It has more working area than any laptop. It has more power than most people will need. It has terrible battery life and barely fits in a bag! But despite that last part … it also has my glowing recommendation. Join me for the MrMobile ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo Review!

OnePlus 7T: Honestly? You Don’t Need A Pro

[ONEPLUS 7T FIRST LOOK / ONEPLUS 7T HANDS-ON]

I may not have the conviction of my colleague Hayato at Android Central, who recently declared the OnePlus 7T to be his favorite phone of 2019 – but I do get where he’s coming from. For $599, the OnePlus 7T gets a lot right, and it feels more in line with the company’s device lineage than the slightly “extra” OnePlus 7 Pro. In fact, I’m in agreement with Michael Josh Villanueva over at GadgetMatch: the OnePlus 7T also feels like the phone OnePlus should have offered *instead* of the OnePlus 7 Pro (at least at first). But with the Pixel 3a trailing it by $200 and the new iPhone 11 at just a Benjamin more, the OnePlus 7T has to nail almost every detail to justify its pricing … and the toughest part for any phone – the camera – has never been OnePlus’s strong suit. Join me for part one of MrMobile’s two-part OnePlus 7T Review!

[THE BEST BATTERY PACK 2019 / BEST WIRELESS CHARGER 2019]

If you just got the new iPhone 11 (or any of 2019’s newest smartphones), congratulations – but don’t expect your battery to last as long as you want. To keep you staying charged while you Stay Mobile, a battery pack or a wireless charger can be a big help – but most of the “best battery packs”/“best wireless chargers” roundups out there just recycle the same handful of brand names. No disrespect to Anker or RAVPower … but there are a lot of lesser-known companies out there making some remarkable battery banks and Qi chargers! So for this video, I’m showing you the ones I think are worth a look, and I’m ending with my new favorite battery bank – which I think might even be the best battery pack of 2019! Join me for the MrMobile Best Battery / Best Wireless Charger Roundup, 2019 edition!

I Didn’t Care About The iPhone 11 – Until I Used It

[IPHONE 11 HANDS-ON / IPHONE 11 PRO HANDS-ON]

I came to New York City specifically to go hands-on with the new iPhone 11. I’ve now gotten to try all three of them, from the bone-stock iPhone 11 to the petite iPhone 11 Pro to the prodigious iPhone 11 Pro Max. I’ve shot endless sample photos with their new wide angle cameras (which I’ve been badgering Apple to include for three years). The phones are thicker and heavier – but trade-off we’ve been insisting Apple make for years. And most surprising of all, the price point on the entry model is $50 lower than last year, while the Pros have retained their price despite adding many new features. In short: Apple has given us nearly everything we’ve asked for.

So why, as I walk the NYC streets with my friends Rene Ritchie and Hayato Huseman, with a brand new smartphone on its very release day … why is it so hard for me to care?

Find out in my Day-One Deep Dive with the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max … and stay tuned for my iPhone 11 Review series, coming soon!

“The Anti-MacBook” – Panasonic TOUGHBOOK 55 Review

If you know the name Toughbook, you probably think of it as the beefy laptop for construction sites, cop cars, and military bases. You Don’t Need A 5G Phone (Yet)

[MRMOBILE’S 5G SPEED TEST IN PROVIDENCE, RI]

Exactly ten years ago, I bought my first 4G smartphone –the HTC Evo 4G– and while the phone was amazing, the Sprint WiMAX network I tested it on … wasn’t. It was too new, too thin, and deployed at a higher frequency that couldn’t penetrate buildings very well – so it was barely useable indoors.

You might remember a few months back I tested Verizon’s 5G network in Chicago and found many of the same issues. All 5G networks are new, and the millimeter-wave bands Verizon is using for its rollout are many times higher frequency than even those WiMAX bands that gave me such trouble back in ‘09. That means they penetrate buildings even more poorly, even if they do provide incredible data speeds.

So what I wanted to find out was, how much difference does a few months and a much smaller city make to making 5G work in real life?

To find out, I took a train to Providence, RI to test Verizon’s new 5G network there … and just to push the limits a little bit, I’m doing the testing and the filming and the editing entirely on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. Join me for MrMobile’s latest 5G speed test!

[ABOUT MRMOBILE’S 5G SPEED TEST IN PROVIDENCE]

MrMobile’s 5G Speed Test In Providence RI was produced following four hours with a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G review sample at a Verizon press event in Providence, RI in August 2019. The devices were tested live on Verizon’s 5G network deployed in Providence, with only one other group of testers (network engineers and their guests) using the network at the time of testing. MrMobile does not produce paid or sponsored reviews; neither Samsung nor Verizon was offered copy review or approval prior to publication, and no compensation was requested or provided in exchange for this coverage.

This video was shot, voiceovered and edited entirely on a Galaxy Note 10+ review sample provided by Samsung for MrMobile’s Galaxy Note 10+ Review (published in August). Editing software: Adobe Rush. Ask questions about the edit process at the social links below!

“Action” & “Zoom” For Under $500 – Motorola’s New Phones

I’ll be honest: I was prepared to be underwhelmed by the Motorola briefing ahead of the IFA 2019 trade show. Let’s face it: while the Lenovo-owned Motorola is finally doing well financially, it’s been a long time since it did something truly exciting. What I saw in the Motorola One Action and Motorola One Zoom didn’t exactly blow me away – neither of these is the hotly-anticipated RAZR foldable – but I did come away reassured that the spirit of innovation is still alive at Motorola. Join me for a hands-on first impressions look at the Motorola One Action and Motorola One Zoom!
