My New Favorite Samsung (Is A TV!)

My TV has been seen in the background of nearly every video I’ve shot since our Coronavirus quarantine began, but you probably missed it – and that’s the whole idea. Samsung calls its specialty television “The Frame” for a reason: sure, it’s a 65-inch QLED TV when it’s turned on, but kill the power – and suddenly, it’s a framed painting. And it isn’t just showing you a screensaver like a computer monitor would; The Frame is using every trick it can to sell the illusion that it’s a genuine printed image. Between that, the magnetic frame bezels and the flush wall mount with single ultrathin power and data cable … I simply couldn’t resist. When, last November, I saw The Frame at my local electronics store on the first TV-buying expedition of my life, I just had to have it – even though for the price, I could have bought two or three 65″ TVs that didn’t pull double duty as a “Frame.”

It’s the second episode of MrMobile Stays Home, and I’m excited to show you one of my favorite tech purchases of all time. Join me for my first-ever review of a television in MrMobile’s Samsung The Frame Review!

Skagen Falster 3 Review: The Classy Way To Wear OS

The Skagen Falster 3 is an intoxicating blend of Danish minimalism and a splash of well-placed excess. Like the Falster 2 before it, it’s the most fetching Wear OS smartwatch of its generation – and when you toss in Fossil’s custom battery-saving and voice call mods, it may well be the best Wear OS watch of 2020 so far. But how many updates does Wear OS need until the Falster 3 can be considered a legitimately great smartwatch at $295? Let’s see how much of that question we can answer in the Skagen Falster 3 Review!

Moto G Stylus Review: Can A Pen Save The Budget Phone?

It almost couldn’t be a worse time to launch a budget-conscious smartphone. Yes, people are being more frugal, but there are already amazing options out there: if Apple’s iPhone SE 2020 lives up to its 2016-era predecessor, it’ll easily earn its $400 price tag, and rumors have Google’s Pixel 4a launching soon around the same price. If that weren’t enough, last year’s most excellent Pixel 3a just dropped to $299, which I think is the deal of the year so far. With competition like that, you might ask why anyone would want to buy a Moto G Stylus for $299. And my answer would ordinarily be no one – not even for the stylus in the silo – were it not for a reduction at the retailers. Join me for the Moto G Stylus Review!

OnePlus 8 Pro Review: Becoming The Villain

Sponsored by dbrand. Skin your OnePlus 8 Pro here: http://dbrand.com/mrmobile-op8pro

[ONEPLUS 8 PRO REVIEW]

Every year since 2014, OnePlus has released a new smartphone, and nearly every year it’s raised the price. That in turn has caused reviewers like me to ask, “is it worth the extra money?” … and for the past six years, the answer, time and again, has been yes.

This is different.

To be clear, I’m not saying the OnePlus 8 Pro doesn’t earn its asking price, which is $899. And we should remember that it’s not the first OnePlus to hit this threshold either: the McLaren edition of last year’s 7T Pro was priced the same. But if we ignore special edition phones and directly compare, generation to generation, what’s available here in the States … the OnePlus 8 Pro is a $230 jump from last year’s 7 Pro.

That’s a lot. To some it’s evidence of OnePlus losing touch with its core values, sacrificing its status as smartphone value hero and finally “becoming the villain.” Does this argument hold up, or is OnePlus finally just coming into its own? Find out in the MrMobile OnePlus 8 Pro Review!

MrMobile’s OnePlus 8 Pro Review was produced following 13 days with a OnePlus 8 Pro review device (model IN2025) provided by OnePlus. The device was carried alongside a OnePlus 8 (model IN 2015) in Brooklyn NY and tested on Verizon and T-Mobile. It received a single software update during the review period.

MrMobile does not produce paid reviews; no company paid a fee or otherwise offered compensation in exchange for this coverage, and no company was offered copy approval or an early preview of this content. The lone sponsor of the OnePlus 8 Pro review is dbrand.

MrMobile’s parent company Future plc participated in a promotional arrangement with OnePlus to host a Q&A session on Twitter following the OnePlus 8 Pro launch. While Michael Fisher answered some questions during that Q&A, neither he nor the MrMobile division was involved in the advertising or negotiation process, and the MrMobile division received no compensation for that participation.

[ONEPLUS 8 REVIEW]

OnePlus is a smartphone maker with a cool story. It started out by appealing to buyers who were price-conscious, yes, but more importantly: phone geeks. So OnePlus phones have always been fast and buffed up by a few cherry-picked features that actually make them more useful. At the same time, OnePlus has mostly resisted adding extraneous bloatware that doesn’t improve the experience. The result has been years of products that I could recommend not just to fellow nerds, but to normal people who just wanted a really solid phone at a fair price.

The OnePlus 8 doesn’t betray that legacy, but it also doesn’t do much to push it forward. For that you need to look to the OnePlus 8 Pro, but then you’re jumping to a $900 phone. The OnePlus 8 here? A buck under $700. That’s more in line with the company’s traditional year-over-year price hikes, but it’s still more expensive than ever. With competition like the Pixel 3a selling for less than half the price, does the OnePlus 8 stand a chance even though it’s about to be on more shelves than ever? Find out in my OnePlus 8 Review!

The Different Types Of Foldable Phone, Explained

Foldable screens are the biggest revolution in mobile tech in over a decade. In just one year, the foldable phone has gone from far-fetched sci-fi movie prop to reality, with four models available now and more coming soon. I’ve been following the foldable-screen revolution ever since picking up that first ill-fated Galaxy Fold from Samsung in April 2019, and every model since – the Huawei Mate X/Xs, Motorola Razr, Galaxy Z Flip, and even the LG Dual Screen “faux-ldable,” has advanced the story of the foldable phone. With a Lenovo folding-screen laptop on the horizon and still more variations on the foldable theme coming from Microsoft with its Surface Duo and Neo, the days of the boring old rectangular slab appear to be numbered. And I couldn’t be happier.

In Episode 1, MrMobile outlines the four basic types of folding phone to help you decide which one might be best for your lifestyle, and also to shine a light on the best (and worst) aspects of foldable phones in 2020.

[GALAXY BOOK S REVIEW]

The first Apple computer I ever bought was a MacBook Air in 2009. When I think back on my favorite laptops of all time, that machine ranks very highly to this day. Why am I talking about a MacBook Air, on a review covering a Samsung Windows laptop? To make this point: if what you want is a super portable notebook with powerful features … you don’t always need to look for an Apple logo.

In today’s video: the Galaxy Book S. And while the first thing your eye might go to is the Samsung logo, or the impossibly thin casing … the biggest deal for me, is this: it’s the first “Always Connected PC” I’d actually buy. Come find out why in MrMobile’s Samsung Galaxy Book S Review!
