وفقاً لتقرير التنمية البشرية الصادر عن الأمم المتحدة في 2010 فإنّ متوسط عمر الفرد المتوقع في الدول النامية ارتفع من 59 عاماً في 1970 إلى 70 عاماً في 2010، كما ازداد معدل الالتحاق الأفراد إلى المدارس من 55% إلى 70% خلال السنوات الأربعين الماضية.

لكن يبدو أنّ بعض الدول لم تستطع أن تحرز هذا التقدّم، إمّا بسبب الحروب الأهلية أو الكوارث الطبيعية أو تفشي الأمراض والأوبئة.

كتبتُ في وقت سابق عن أغنى دول العالم وأكثرها ازدهاراً، واليوم أكتب لكم مقالاً مشابهاً ولكن عن الطرف الآخر من كوكبنا.
