What You Need to Know About Red Guardian’s Origins

Red Guardian From Black Widow Has Some Messed Up Origins

While Marvel’s Black Widow gives our hero the solo story she deserved years ago — one of the more compelling parts of the film are all the new characters we get to meet, including David Harbour’s Red Guardian. But who is the mystery guy — and which side is he actually on?

Now, it’s easy to get Red Guardian confused with other Marvel characters — especially considering there’s been SEVEN different versions of the character over the years. There’s Dr. Tania Belinsky, the female Red Guardian who also doubles as a brain surgeon. There’s Josef Petkus, who served as the Red Guardian while part of the Supreme Soviets. The one hero you shouldn’t mix him up with? The Guardian. Also donning a red suit, Marvel’s Guardian is the Canadian counterpart to Captain America, who we can only imagine is a little more kind and gentle than the actual Red Guardian. Publishing wise, Alexi Shostakov was technically the first, but through some flashbacks and retcons — the first timeline based Red Guardian was Aleksey Lebedev. The character was shown in flashbacks from a Namor comic published in 1991.

Learn about how David Harbour’s portrayal of the character will tie into the comics, what the MCU does differently, and how everything will connect to other Avengers like Captain America.

Time to head to the pages of Marvel Comics for some surprising reveals, connections to Captain America — and another failed love interest for poor Natasha. Before the May release date arrives, learn EVERYTHING you need to know about the Red Guardian.

10 Times Actors Got Caught Without Digital Effects

These Movies Would Look So Much Different Without All That CGI
Subscribe to our channel: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-Screenrant

Gone are the days of practical special effects. At least, the days when practical effects were the primary source of visual magic in the movies. Nowadays, film studios may use models and mock-ups, but they’ll almost always be aided by digital special effects. These Computer Generated Images, or CGI, are designed by the artists at special effects houses like George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic or Peter Jackson’s WETA. And while the audience’s eyes can still pick up on inconsistencies or moments of visual fakery, the filmmakers behind the special effects on screen are always finding new ways to surprise us.

Yet, for every moment of wonder in Star Wars, Avatar, or the Avengers movies, there are also instances where special effects stick out like sore thumbs, and where we in the audience can see the strings. It’s in these behind the scenes photos and footage that we can see motion capture actors in silly bodysuits, famous celebrities in monochromatic onesies and imposing antagonists stuck wearing clunky and simplistic costumes. Sure, all these goofy-looking costumes are going to be fixed in post, but for now we can enjoy how clunky they truly are before finished touches are added.

Join ScreenRant as we go through these 10 instances where actors were caught on set without the aid of digital effects. There’s Chris Evans in Captain America, Zoe Saldana in Avatar, the cast of The Planet of the Apes series, Benedict Cumberbatch in the Hobbit, Peter Cushing in Rogue One, Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool, the cape in Superman, the bear in The Revenant, and Andy Serkis in – well – practically everything!

Featuring:

Entry 1 – ANDY SERKIS in EVERYTHING
Entry 2 – THE APES ACTORS in THE PLANET OF THE APES SERIES
Entry 3 – THE BEAR in THE REVENANT
Entry 4 – ZOE SALDANA in AVATAR
Entry 5 – RDJ & DON CHEADLE in IRON MAN 2
Entry 6 – CHRIS EVANS in CAPTAIN AMERICA
