Cassini’s Grand Finale at Saturn – Bonnie Meinke, Space Telescope Science Institute
Since 2004, NASA’s Cassini spacecraft has been orbiting Saturn making amazing discoveries about the planet’s swirling storms, menagerie of moons, and radical ring system. The Cassini mission recently ended on September 15, 2017 when the spacecraft dove into the cloud tops of Saturn; leaving behind a wake of scientists’ tears and hopeful predictions for the future of planetary science. Many of the lessons of Saturn can be applied elsewhere in our solar system and to worlds around other stars, including giant planet weather patterns, moon construction, and potential habitable environments. Dr. Meinke will strive to condense this historic 13 year voyage into 45 minutes as she celebrates the highlights of a mission that changed our understanding of the solar system.
Host: Dr. Frank Summers
Recorded live on October 3, 2017 at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, MD, USA

Nintendo is known for creating fun and engaging games which gamers of all ages can play for hours on end. In fact, their games are so beloved that the biggest titles have become an integral part of popular culture. Even gamers who are not fans of Nintendo are well versed in almost every aspect of the Mario and Zelda franchises. From main characters to cheeky inside jokes, there is a lot to love about Nintendo’s two most popular titles.
Since the first installment was released back in 1986, the Legend of Zelda has taken over popular culture. While most fans are aware of often repeated taglines and the epic soundtrack, there is a lot more to this franchise than most fans realize. From its humble beginnings to an entirely different soundtrack, there are some aspects of the franchise which are regularly overlooked or even forgotten. However, if it weren’t for Nintendo’s ability to adapt and change, gamers would not have the iteration of the Legend of Zelda franchise they have today.
For example, fans of the franchise might not be aware of the game’s early beginnings. Similar to Mario Maker, in the sense that Nintendo intended for the title to be a dungeon builder, the game as fans know it would’ve been a lot different from the titles they know today. Luckily, Nintendo saw the possibilities and changed course which gave fans the iconic video game franchise we all know and love today. The franchise itself has taken on a life of its own and now stands as one of the most popular games of all time. While fans may think they know a lot about the series, here are 10 things they may not know about their beloved Legend of Zelda franchise.
