Captain Marvel is already generating quite a bit of hype but her longtime enemies, the Skrulls, are also making headlines these days. But if you’ve only watched the Marvel movies and have never picked up a comic, you may be lost as to who the Skrulls actually are. They date back to 1962 when Stan Lee and Jack Kirby unveiled the alien species in a Fantastic Four comic. They are a shapeshifting alien race who are able to take on the form of anyone they’d like, with no limitations. That means they can change their gender, assume superhero powers and even combine them if they’d like. They are often depicted as being at war with the Kree and long to take over the Earth as it was prophesied on a religious text. There are mutant Skrulls too, and Charles Xavier takes them under his wing as they too are outcasts. The Skrulls have had run-ins with Thanos and the Chitauri from the first Avengers movie are a small nod to the Ultimate Skrulls from the comics. In Secret Invasion, Deadpool of all people was critical in obtaining important information about the aliens. There are three types of Skrulls, and one of them was just announced to be a motion picture by Marvel. Hulkling was once offered to be the Emperor of the Skrulls, whose Empire crosses many planets and many different species. Galactus is the prime reason why the Skrulls are broken into various splinter factions. We hope to see a lot more of the Skrulls in the 4th phase of the MCU and really hope to see Secret Invasion one day on the big screen!
