Some people were pretty outraged by the fact that both Batman and Superman took lives in the DCEU. Typically there’s a kind of moral code surrounding mainstream superheroes that they don’t take lives– that’s something the bad guys do. So how has Marvel managed to mostly avoid having their heroes take lives over the course of more than 20 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

In this video we’ll lake a look at some of the tricks in their book that they use to get past the moral grey area of having villains die (or not die) at the end of their movies. Whether it’s by throwing them in jail, having them be defeated by an act of their own, or simply getting some kind of weird ambiguous non-death scene, Marvel seems to put a lot of effort into keeping their heroes out of that “moral grey zone” and letting them play in the happy fun light zone!

Streaming services like Netflix have taken over the media landscape in recent years — and there are just a ton more on the way. Disney has Disney Plus, HBO has HBO Max, Apple has Apple TV+. With so many services in the game, every company is going to be trying to innovate to make THEIR platform more attractive to consumers.

However, this kind of thing can potentially blow up in their faces too. Just recently, Netflix experienced a ton of backlash from famous actors and filmmakers over the announcement that they were testing a feature that would let people control the playback speed of Netflix content.

This backlash could actually now negatively affect Netflix— hinting at the possibility that filmmakers and showrunners might want their content taken off the platform altogether. We’re entering a weird nebulous time where power could be slipping from the hands of streaming giants and back into the hands of creators. Let’s talk about it!

Disney’s Frozen was the highest-grossing animated movie of all time (until it was beaten by Disney’s The Lion King in 2019) so it’s only natural that we ended up getting a sequel. Frozen 2 brings Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven back to the big screen for another adventure.

The movie definitely raises a lot of questions though. Like how do you follow up a film that ended with “they lived happily ever after?” Why is Kristoff even in this movie? What’s Olaf up to other than trying to sell merch to kids? Why is this movie filled with so much exposition? What’s up with all the Northuldra and Arendelle soldiers being introduced, only to do practically nothing story-wise?
