The Joker is an iconic Batman villain and has been for years, though the origins and true identity of The Clown Prince of Crime are unclear. The Dark Knight has had his hands full with The Joker in a number of incarnations, from his beginnings in Detective Comics, to the film The Dark Knight, with Heath Ledger as The Joker, and Batman: The Animated Series, where Mark Hamill’s voice talent breathed life into the character. The Red Hood, the vat of chemicals, the tough childhood, and the difficult family life: all of these have been used in different ways to tell the story of how the Joker came to be.

As with most comic book characters, there are often re-imaginings and different versions to a character’s past. An earlier video looked in detail at the origin provided in 1988’s The Killing Joke. but today, we’re expanding and updating our original origin video to include additional storylines and versions of the character.
