ROSALINA IS THE QUEEN OF NINTENDO. Okay, so maybe not the queen but she’s become one of the most successful female characters of the Mario franchise.

Some even argue she’s only added to Mario games because she’s a sort of fan service, but we disagree with this statement. There’s still plenty left to learn about this mysterious and powerful princess.

Rosalina is a very misunderstood and eccentric character in the Nintendo world and she has quite the background story attached to her which is something many of the “newer” additions to the Mario series don’t have. There are still plenty of things we can learn about this magical, mysterious princess though!

Rosalina played a role in helping Mario quite a few times in the Mario games–whether she was playing alongside him in a Tennis match or giving him some sound advice from a far-off place in the Mario Manga series. Rosalina ended up being in Super Mario-Kun’s Volume 38 where she makes a hologram of a giant Goomba and sends it to Mario to defeat so he can get his ego back. Much to his surprise, he easily defeats it and is back to his normal hero self.

There’s also a game theory circulating that Peach is Rosalina’s mother from another alternate reality. There’s quite the evidence to show this may be the case, but we’re still a bit skeptical of the whole idea. But there is an argument it could have happened especially if you’ve had the pleasure of playing Super Mario Galaxy! Plus, much like Peach, she doesn’t really have a “true” boyfriend and she likes to reward heroes with cake so she must have learned that from somewhere…or someone rather familiar.

If you’re a fan of the Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, you may recall an episode with the queen of mermaids. There was another theory floating around that the mermaid queen was meant to be a parody of Rosalina. What do you think about the comparison? Bowser is easily one of the greatest video game villains of all time! He’s persistent, loyal to his cause and completely selfish in the most humorous way possible.

It’s hard to believe back in 1985, when Bowser was first created, he was supposed to be an Ox. It was Miyamoto who drew the original box art and had pulled inspiration from an anime villain named Ox Demon King from Journey to the West. Thankfully, he was turned into the fiery turtle we’ve all come to know and love in the next design process. Another weird thought is that Bowser led a fairly normal life before he began kidnapping Peach and trying to rule the Mushroom Kingdom. He was even married to a lovely lady of his own species named Clawdia Koopa. Unfortunately, Clawdia couldn’t deal with the drama that came with being with Bowser and ended up mysteriously vanishing.

Maybe, she found out Bowser’s deep dark secrets and discovered he loved someone other than himself: Peach. Could you imagine being the wife of the guy who spent all of his time trying to kidnap another woman. I don’t foresee it ending too well. We discover, or at least REALLY discover Bowser is attracted to Peach in the Paper Mario series. And no, it’s not some kind of weird glitch.

Bowser loves meat and food and it’s shown in many of the video games, but did you know he was named after a Korean dish? He even oddly resembles the dish with his namesake. King Koopa does sound much better than King Yukki, which would have been a strong contender but didn’t have as nice of a ring to it. You have seen them everywhere, but often don’t think of them or even look at them. Those short stubby mushroom headed citizens can be found all over the place. Toad is an odd character, but quite fitting in the Mushroom Kingdom. The loyal servants of Princess Peach are always there to lend a hand and also to tell you that the princess is in another castle. They don’t always speak, but when they do, it is often in that shrill and scratchy voice that is two parts annoying and one part endearing. Just like Link, Toad also has a very unique sound, but unlike Link, they are actually capable of forming complete sentences. Toads are a lot like minions actually.

They all look alike with a few variations, seem to come out of nowhere with no reasonable explanation and…come to think about it, that’s about it. Toads are nothing like Minions. More to the point, what do we really know about thee mushroom capped henchmen? Where did they come from? How do they fit into the Mario franchise? Have you ever wondered what is under their hats or if that mushroom cap is a part of their head? Well, we intend to answer all of these questions and more in today’s video.
