In video games, Easter Eggs are typically a fun surprise for gamers. The entire point is to either recognize a facet of pop culture or to reward hardcore gamers for playing the game so thoroughly. Everyone loves discovering Easter Eggs in any video game that they’re playing because, oftentimes, it’s like a secret between the game developers and the gamer. Most Easter Eggs are fairly harmless. They’re a recreation of a popular meme or movie scene. They can be a nod to an older title in the same franchise or just a funny joke that most players will get once they run across it.

Sometimes, however, these jokes may fall flat. What seemed like a good idea to developers at the time may not go over so well with the fans. Either these Easter Eggs are just ill timed, poorly thought out, or just plain ridiculous. Occasionally, these Easter Eggs are just plain weird. Sure, some gamers may find them funny, but others may find them simply irritating. Nevertheless, these cringe worthy Easter Eggs did happen and while some of them are kind of funny, we can’t help but think that the developers could’ve spent their time more efficiently.

After all, it isn’t easy to create a video game so putting in so many hours on what is, essentially, a joke seems somewhat pointless. However, some of these Easter Eggs, no matter how ridiculous, have become somewhat famous in pop culture. Sometimes something is so cringe worthy, it’s hard to look away and it takes on a life of its own as a meme. Here are the top 5 cringiest video game Easter eggs ever.

Did you know you can use a USB keyboard to input text on Switch? Or that Nintendo has tucked a full-fledged internet browser onto the system, just out of sight? And those Joy-Con controllers are much more versatile than they seem at first. Not only can you use them to play Switch games, but you can even connect them to your phone or computer to play games. If you’ve ever binged through a game only to wonder how much time you actually poured into it, the Switch lets you check your play time in any game you’ve played. Not only that, but the Switch can also turn on your TV.

And don’t think you’re locked into games released in your region. You can set up a new eShop account to buy and play games from any region. If you’re in the mood for a new game but don’t want to spend a lot of money, you can see which games are on sale at any time in the eShop. If you frequently find yourself running through your battery’s charge, you might want to get yourself an external battery pack to squeeze out more playtime. If you’re the only one who plays your Switch, you can make it stop asking which user you are each time you start up a new game. And finally, if you manage to lose track of a Joy-Con, the Switch can help you find it.

Not a bad set of features for such a tiny game console.

With the popularity of video games, the video gaming industry has taken full advantage of the public’s interest in games and released a wide array of games for any and every player’s tastes. From MMORPGs and first person shooters, there is a type of game that caters to nearly every player’s tastes. In fact, there are games available that most players didn’t even know they needed or wanted.

While these games may be awesome, they often don’t make a whole lot of sense. For example, finding love with a bird while human may make most gamers scratch their heads at the concept, but there’s someone out there in the world that enjoys that type of gameplay. Have you ever wanted to roll over everything on earth and then fire that ball of trash into the sky? Katamari Damacy has you covered even though the plot is somewhat nonsensical. If you’ve ever wanted to experience life as a dog rapper, there’s a game for that as well. Even if your deepest, darkest wish is to be an octopus father, game developers have already released just the title for you. Unfortunately, some of these games don’t make much sense, plot wise.

That’s not an issue, however, as long as gamers are having fun. In fact, even the strangest games available may help out game developers. Let’s face facts, while working on the next Call of Duty franchise may be a lifetime career goal, even developers need to branch out and make a weird game once in awhile in order to keep their imagination fresh.

Now Super Mario is one of the most recognizable video game franchises in the world, standing alongside Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda. With such a high level of fame, imitators are sure to follow. You see this all the time in other facets of media. People making rip offs of famous movies, TV shows and games. In fact, some movie studios make an entire living off of making cheap rip offs of the latest summer blockbusters. Other terms that fall close to rip off including the words reference and homage, but today we will be looking at some of the more obvious cases of people ripping off Super Mario.

These kinds of games don’t even shy away from being complete rip offs of the Super Mario franchise, whether that is with the name, the aesthetics, the gameplay or all three. These are some of the most shameless rip offs of Super Mario we could find.
