Game of Thrones is coming to a close soon and fans are eagerly awaiting what will surely be an epic season, full of epic battles, dragons, treachery and of course, White Walkers. But through all the madness, did we ever really stop to ask why the Walkers are returning and why now? Fans who’ve been paying attention to the show or have read the book will now that this isn’t’ the first time the Walkers have attacked South of the Wall. Eight thousand years before the events of the show, the Walkers attacked and lost and Bran the Builder raised The Wall and Winterfell. He laid the former with magic and one can only assume that he did the same with the latter. As the first Stark, his magic may have been bound to his bloodline. So much so that perhaps his magic and his lineage was what was keeping the White Walkers at bay all those years. Eight thousand years is a long time and the Walkers passed into myth. So when all the Starks left Winterfell for the great Tourney that ultimately launched Robert’s Rebellion, it seems that the Walkers may have woken up around the same time. ? Maybe, but in a world where R+L=J turned out to be real, nothing, as detailed as this theory, can be taken for granted anymore. It is quite possible that by not leaving a Stark in Winterfell fifteen years before the events of the novels and show, the White Walkers woke up from their slumber and began reorganizing yet again, attacking the Wildings and building an army. Let’s dive into it!
