Verdict: While the visuals have grown progressively more impressive, the level of improvement in the plot department was moderate at best. It also weighed in at almost 3 hours, which we’re not sure was strictly necessary.

Network is a must-watch for anyone interested in the state of mass media. Even though it was made in the 70s, a lot of the issues are still at play today (or more so!) If you’re ready to get angry, or have a cleansing moment of clarity (on national airtime or otherwise)you should definitely check out Network. Put it on your list of movies to see before you die (or get replaced by a younger anchor despite your years of experience).

Zak Penn’s writing credits might have resulted in less than killer movies (X-Men: The Last Stand, The Incredible Hulk), but we’re not inclined to hold that against him, because his “Story By” credits are pretty cool: X2, The Avengers… The Last Action Hero (which Christina liked. She was 10, okay??). And a good handle on story is exactly what this complicated, mythology-heavy novel needs.
