This new supercar costs just a fraction as much as the cars it sits next to on the McLaren showroom floor. With a sticker price of just $187,400, the 570S is nearly a hundred grand cheaper than the 650S, and it’s nearly as fast too. The cost has come down by substituting aluminum body panels where carbon fiber was previously used, and conventional suspension in place of the 650S’s interconnected hydraulic lines. The basic bits remain: a full carbon-fiber tub and flat-plane-crank turbocharged V-8 that screams to over 8000 rpm. As the car’s name suggests, the 3.8-liter engine makes 570 metric horsepower (562 SAE hp), and a new equal-length exhaust gives this McLaren a whole new sound. In this episode of Hot Rod Garage presented by Lincoln Tech, we’ve got #Rollsmokey, our 12 V Cummins Turbo Diesel swapped 1973 D200, back in the shop for a complete handling overhaul. To deal with the 750+ft lbs of torque from the Cummins engine, we had to upgrade the Dana 60 rear-end with a Detroit Truetrac, and longer 3.54 gears. To make it handle, we upgraded all the suspension bushings to polyurethane, installed a quick-ratio steering gearbox, and replaced all the bushings and joints with fresh parts. To finish it off, a set of Heavy-duty shocks, and clipped 1-ton springs were installed to get a lowered street-machine stance. Super Lap Battle / Global Time attack finals is the Super Bowl of Time Attack racing in America. All year long, cars and teams prepare their cars for this one event to make sure they bring the best of the best to ButtonWillow Raceway in CA. This year some major records fell in the Unlimited and Limited Classes. The Spoon Sports turbo charged Civic Type R driven by Dai Yoshihara was one to watch all weekend long. Other cars such at EVO’s, S2000’s, Corvettes’ and Civics were also scratching at records in their own classes. This year’s even had no shortage of Time Attack excitement.
