Autocar drives the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG coupe, which shares its engine with the A45 AMG. Does it have the same magic?

SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar

We’re big fans of the Mercedes A45 AMG hot hatch. With 355bhp from a hand-built 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, four-wheel drive, a sublime chassis and lovely interior, what’s not to like? The prospect of the same powertrain in the coupe body of the Mercedes CLA45 AMG is pretty compelling then. On paper its performance is near identical, and it weighs just 35kg more, so is it just as good to drive? Watch the video to find out.

355bhp Mercedes A45 AMG driven flat out – autocar.co.uk

The Mercedes A45 AMG is the first AMG to be powered by a four-cylinder engine. But with 355bhp any doubts as to its performance evaporate. Could this be the first hyper hot hatch? Steve Sutcliffe finds out.

SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar

The Mercedes A45 AMG is the German car-maker’s first proper hot hatch, and with the world’s most powerful production 2.0-litre petrol engine, it marks quite an entrance. The hand-built motor is allied with four-wheel drive instead of the driven rear wheels of its main rival, the BMW M135i, and gets the AMG to 62mph in 4.6 seconds. Steve Sutcliffe drove it flat-out on track to find out if handles as well as it goes.

217mph Bentley Speed 8 Le Mans winner driven – autocar.co.uk

Autocar gets a chance to drive the priceless Bentley Speed 8 Le Mans racer, which dominated the Le Mans 24hr race in 2003.

SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar

The stunning Bentley Speed 8 dominated the 24hrs of Le Mans in 2003, finishing in first and second place, seven laps ahead of its competitors. So, when Autocar was invited to drive it at the Anglesey circuit, Steve Sutcliffe was hardly going to say no. With a turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 it has 615bhp, weighs just 900kg and is geared to hit 97mph in first gear. Even with used racing slicks and a polite warning from Bentley to be careful, it’s breathtakingly fast.

Aston Martin Rapide ESTATE driven (Bertone Jet 2+2 Shooting Brake) – autocar.co.uk

Autocar tests the Aston Martin Rapide-based Bertone Jet 2+2 Shooting brake, a one-off, road legal concept car built for a wealthy UK customer.

When Bertone built its Jet 2 concept car to show off its coachbuilding expertise, one wealthy UK petrolhead was so impressed, he asked Bertone to make it for real. One donated Aston Martin Rapide and four months later and the bespoke Jet 2+2 Shooting Brake was ready to be shown at the 2013 Geneva motor show ahead of its delivery. But, not before Autocar’s Steve Sutcliffe took the £4m one-off for a spin on the roads around Bertone’s HQ.

Audi RS4 Avant vs Vauxhall VXR8 Tourer (Holden HSV Clubsport) – performance estate car showdown

The Audi RS4 Avant and Vauxhall VXR8 Tourer are both V8 high-performance estate cars, but their execution couldn’t be more different.

SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar

It’s amazing that two £50,000 sporting V8 estate cars can be as different as the Audi RS4 Avant and Vauxhall VXR8 Tourer in character. The RS4 is turbocharged, four-wheel drive with a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox and impeccable fit and finish. The Holden HSV Clubsport-based Vauxhall VXR8 is big-hearted, rear-wheel drive, manual and has a comparatively old-school interior. Steve Sutcliffe drove them both flat-out to see if German precision could overcome the tyre-smoking brawn of the 6.2-litre VXR8.

2013 Nissan GT-R vs Alpina B6 on track and road – autocar.co.uk

On paper the 2013 Nissan GT-R and Alpina B6 seem well matched. Autocar tests the reality on road and at Brands Hatch.

SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar

While they might not seem like obvious rivals, the 542bhp 2013 Nissan GT-R and 532bhp Alpina B6 are surprisingly close on paper. Both cars have a quick-shifting automatic gearbox, four-wheel drive and performance numbers which defy their considerable kerb weights. But specifications are one thing, how they perform in the hands of Steve Sutcliffe are quite another. Autocar took this pair of bruisers on track at Brands Hatch and then out on the road for the full verdict.

Land Rover Bowler EXR S v Caterham Seven Supersport race – autocar.co.uk

Can a 1,750kg Land Rover Bowler EXR S Dakar racer keep up with a 520kg Caterham Seven Supersport track day toy? Steve Sutcliffe finds out.

SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar

This is a clash of the opposites. The Bowler EXR S is based on the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, but very little of the original car remains. Designed for Dakar-type off-road racing events, the 1,750kg Bowler has 550bhp, a sequential gearbox and trick suspension. But can it really keep up with a car weighing 520kg on a smooth track? The Caterham Seven Supersport has just 140bhp, but we all know it can embarrass some exotics. How about the £155,000 Bowler?

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta flat-out – autocar.co.uk

Autocar revisits the outrageous 730bhp Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and drives it flat out on some of Italy’s best roads.

SUBSCRIBE to Autocar: http://youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=autocar

When Autocar was asked to spend a day driving the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta in Italy, Steve Sutcliffe jumped on a plane and headed out on the twistiest tarmac he could find. With a 6.3-litre V12 engine producing 730bhp at 8,500rpm and then sending it to just the rear wheels, of course he turned the traction control off. Sit back, turn up your speakers and watch Maranello’s Lamborghini Aventador rival at full chat.
