Bong Joon Ho is a wonderful filmmaker. Over the course of the past couple decades, he’s been paving his way as one of the most intriguing voices in cinema. From films like ‘Barking Dogs Never Bite’ to ‘The Host’ to ‘Snowpiercer’ and ‘Okja,’ it’s more than clear that Bong has a distinctive vision. His latest film ‘Parasite’ further proves this, and may very well be his strongest effort to date. It’s so good, in fact, we’re willing to make the claim that it’s the only movie you really need to see this year. That’s right, we’re going there.
It all comes down to getting excited about cinema. We’re so overwhelmed with franchises like Marvel and Star Wars, in addition to the countless reboots and remakes we see released almost daily. When a film like ‘Parasite’ comes along, film fans should take note. It’s a wholly original concept and an expertly told story. It’s not based on any existing properties, which means you most likely won’t see any of its twists and turns coming. It works on every level, from script and performances to production design and cinematography. This is masterful filmmaking firing on all cylinders.
As film fans, these are the kinds of movies that deserve our support. With filmmakers like Bong out there creating original work that paves the way for more original work, the future of cinema looks just a tad bit brighter. Now, let’s dive right in so we can explain exactly why ‘Parasite’ is so deserving of your attention.
