With series like Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed releasing a new game every year, we begin to think about some titles that are probably much more deserving of a sequel. In a world dominated by sequels and universes, a second outing would sound like a financially beneficial decision. If fans are telling you they want it, why not go and give it to them. It’s such a simple idea yet somethings these developers just don’t listen. Whether critical success that failed commercially to overall hits, these are worlds we never got to return to.

Some make it pretty far through development, just inches away from release, just to be thrown out at the last minute; just like Star Fox 2. Others collapse because of clashes between the publisher and developer (*cough* Kojima and Konami *cough*). Or the games that were killed for being too niche, poor Mega Man Legends 3. Then, there are the urban myths, the titles we pray for at every E3 and Game Awards. Games like Half Life 3 that crush our souls every time we think of them, knowing they will never see the light of day.
