علاء ولي الدين (28 سبتمبر 1963 – 11 فبراير 2003)، ممثل مصري. تخرج من مدرسة مصر الجديدة الثانوية العسكرية وبرز من خلال أدوار ثانوية في أفلام عادل إمام
ثم انطلق بعد ذلك وقام ببطولة عدة أفلام. ولد بمحافظة المنيا – مركز بنى مزار – قرية الجندية وكان جدة الشيخ سيد ولى الدين مؤسس مدرسة في القرية أنشئها كاملاً على نفقته الخاصة وظلت تعمل لأعوام إلى أن انتقلت إلى الجهات الحكومية. ووالده سمير ولى الدين كان ممثلاً (قام بدور الشاويش حسين فى مسرحيه (شاهد ما شفش حاجة)) وكذلك كان مدير عاما لملاهى القاهرة.
كان علاء ولى الدين دائم الحديث عن الموت، في كل مرحلة يذكر الله داعيًا أن يحسن خاتمته، وتعجبت والدته عندما قام بشراء مقبرة له قبل رحيله بشهور قليلة، فأكد لها أن هذه الدار الباقية، حتى إن صديق عمره الفنان محمد هنيدي طلب منه أن يتوقف عن الحديث عن الموت،
وتمر اليوم الحادى عشر من فبراير ذكرى وفاة فنان الكوميديا الشاب علاء ولى الدين عن عمر 40 عاما فى 11 فبراير عام 2003 بعد أزمة صحية مفاجئة ، داهمته بعد اداء صلاة عيد الاضحى .
وقد ورث الفنان المصري الراحل علاء ولي الدين، عشقه للفن والسينما من والده سمير ولي الدين، ولكن الابن الموهوب نال شهرة أكبر وأصبح نجما سينمائيًا في فترة قصيرة،
وحصل على البطولة المطلقة واستطاع أن يفتح المجال من خلال أفلامه لنجوم شباك المواسم الحالية كأحمد حلمي، محمد سعد،

وكريم عبدالعزيز، والذين قاموا بأدوار مساندة في الأفلام التي قام هو ببطولتها.
وعلى الرغم من النجاح الذي حققه علاء ولي الدين، ورسمه البسمة على وجوه الملايين،
إلا أن دخوله المجال لم تكن سهلة، حيث لم تقبل به لجنة تحكيم معهد السينما في البداية نظرًا لوزنه الثقيل وشكله غير الوسيم في نظرها،

مما اضطره لإعادة التقديم للمعهد مرات عدة وكانت نفس الإجابة تنتظره في كل مرة، بل ونصحوه بالابتعاد عن مجال التمثيل
لأنه لايصلح.
جاء ذلك بعد أن اشترط عليه والده ألا ينصرف عن دراسته الجامعية وأن يجعل من التمثيل وظيفة ثانية حتى لا تتحكم فيه المهنة وإن انصرفت عنه يستطع أن يعتمد على وظيفة أخرى محترمة،
فلبى علاء رغبة والده والتحق بكلية التجارة وتخرج فيها عام 1985، وبعد المحاولات الفاشلة في دخول معهد السينما، ساعده على دخول المجال صديق والده المخرج نور الدمرداش،
