A friction fire made by the “Fire Plow” method is not as easy as it looks. Practicing with the right woods and techniques is invaluable to being prepared for an actual emergency. I used dried wild hibiscus wood, which in my experience is the easiest wood to do this with. I’ve heard that dried sotol wood is also very easy.

The Samoans say that any type of wood can be used to make a friction fire, and it’s important that both sticks come from the same piece of wood.

I’ve tried many different woods and been successful with amazing amounts of smoke, but thus far haven’t had any success in developing a coal. It’s probably my technique, which I hope I can master over time, but I’ve found very little information on the subject, and nobody who’s actually done it with wood other than hibiscus or sotol.

أعلنت شركة جوجل اليوم عن إطلاق ‘الإصدار المستقر الجديد’ لمتصفح ‘كروم’ والذي يحمل الرقم (23.0.1271) على الحواسيب الشخصية.

 

وقال فريق مطوري المتصفح في جوجل على مدونة الموقع، أن النسخة الجديدة من كروم ستعمل على توفير طاقة بطارية الحواسيب الشخصية واللوحية بالإضافة إلى دعم خيار الخصوصية (عدم التتبع) أو ما يعرف بـ ‘Do Not Track’ إلى الإصدار الجديد من نسخة المستخدم النهائي، بعد أن كانت سابقاً قد أضافتها إلى نسخة المطورين.

 

وأضاف المطورون أن إضافة خيار (عدم التتبع) سيسهم في تعزيز خصوصية المستخدم أثناء التصفح، فعند تمكين خيار (عدم التتبع)، يقوم المتصفح بمنع مواقع الإنترنت التي يزورها المستخدم، وكذلك المُعلِنين، من جمع معلومات عن اهتماماته عبر ما يعرف بملفات الكوكيز، بهدف عرض الإعلانات المُوجَّهة له. وقالوا أن إضافة خيار الخصوصية الجديد جاء استجابة لطلبات المستخدمين.

 

وقال المطورون أنهم قاموا مؤخراً في النسخة الجديدة بتمكين فك تشفير وحدة معالجة الرسوميات على أنظمة ويندوز، وأن شرائح الرسوميات المخصصة تسهم في إنقاص استهلاك طاقة أقل من تلك التي يستهلكها المعالج أو وحدة المعالجة المركزية في الحاسب، أي أن مشاهدة الفيديو عن طريق فك تشفير وحدة معالجة الرسوميات ستزيد من عمر البطارية على نحو ملحوظ، بحسب المطورين.

 

وأتبع المطورون القول بأنهم حققوا في الاختبارات بعد فك تشفير وحدة معالجة الرسوميات زيادة في عمر البطارية قدرت بـ 25%.

 

وبالإضافة إلى التوفير في عمر البطارية، قام المطورون بطرح طرق أسهل للتحكم في أذونات مواقع الإنترنت، كتحديد الموقع الجغرافي للمستخدم وإمكانية الوصول إلى الكاميرا والميكروفون. وبذلك يختصر التطبيق على المستخدمين البحث عن الإعدادات وتغييرها يدوياً، فما على المستخدم إلا النقر على الإيقونة التي تظهر إلى جانب عنوان الموقع لتنسدل قائمة تحوي جميع الأذونات والكوكيز وبيانات الموقع بالإضافة إلى معلومات عن الاتصال والتشفير.

لم تلبث مايكروسوفت أن اطلقت Windows Phone 8 وWindows 8 الأسبوع الفائت حتى وردتنا هذه الإخبارية عن إمكانية تحضيرها لصنع جوال ويندوز فون 8 الخاص بها.

ويفيد مقال نشر في Wall Street Journal أن Microsoft تعمل مع موردي مكونات في اسيا لاختبار تصميم جوال من صنعها، وذلك بحسب مصادر ‘مطلعة على الوضع’.

ويضيف المقال أن مصادر داخل سلسلة موردي مايكروسوفت أكدت أن مايكروسوفت تختبر تصميماً للجوال، لكن من غير المعلوم حالياً ما إذا كانت الشركة تخطط لإدخال التصميم حيز الانتاج الواسع النطاق.

هذه الخطوة قد تكون معقولة للغاية لاسيما بعد طرح جهاز Surface ‘سرفاس’ اللوحي في الأسواق، وهو بدوره أول جهاز حاسوبي من إنتاج مايكروسوفت. وقد تضرب مايكروسوفت أكثر من عصفور بهذا الحجر:

 

  • تأمين جهاز يمثل Windows Phone 8 خير تمثيل
  • منافسة iOS و Android، متمثلة بالـiPhone 5، و جالكسي S3 وجوال نيكسس 4 المقبل.
  • زيادة حجم مبيعات أجهزة ويندوز فون 8 لدفع المطورين إلى توسيع سوق التطبيقات المتاحة
  • منافسة Nintendo وSony عبر خلق منصة ألعاب محمولة تكمل سوق Xbox اكسبوكس وتنافس أجهزة Vita وDS.

 

لكن، ومن ناحية أخرى، قد تخلق هذه الخطوة ردود فعل سلبية على مايكروسوفت، بسبب منافسة ضمنية قد تنشأ بين الجهاز وبين شركاء مايكروسوفت الذين ركبوا قطار Windows 8, وبالدرجة الأولى نوكيا (مع لوميا Lumia 920) ومن ثم HTC وجهاز 8X.
