Game Developers everywhere have a secret job description: trolling players to the brink of insanity. We love video games (even if they poke fun at the things we enjoy sometimes!).
If you like unicorns and rainbows and gory monster deaths than this is the level of your dreams. Who cares if developers made it as a way to show critics exactly what they didn’t want to see in Diablo 3. What’s a gamer’s worst fear? That’s right pushing the reset button on a console as a test to beat the game. It’s okay, X-Men: Sega Genesis did just that and we can’t even be mad. The Metal Gear Solid series lost a lot of its credibility as a great game because gamers really hated the fourth instalment, but we do have to admit they were amazing at trolling themselves or Xbox fans (depending on how you take the joke). Zelda has completely changed its image and gameplay. Also, developers have added an important duty to complete and that’s collecting all 900 Koruk seeds for an extra smelly surprise. And if you were an Assassin’s Creed fan you might have felt so strongly about the third instalment. It turns out you’ve been playing as your worst enemy the whole time. How d’ya like them apples? Oh, and the ultra-secret Street Fighter 2 character called Sheng Long. Well, it turns out he was all just a figment of our imaginations. But at least we all thought he was real together. Mass Effect 3 also had the ability to make us realize that writers can be lazy with endings–but at least they picked primary colors of red, green and blue to paint our disdain with the ending. We’ve seen our fair share of trolling with the Grand Theft Auto series and at this point nothing can surprise us. That also includes a reward that includes a rusty old tractor, yeah, you can’t blame us for taking the money and running Mr. Cult Leader. When we think of video game crushes Geralt from Witcher 3 probably doesn’t come to mind first. But he did learn a valuable lesson when he tried to romance two women at once. That’s right three’s a crowd. Batman Arkham Asylum had us suffering nightmares for weeks with it’s scary rendition of the Joker. Oh, and that scary glitch that made us think the Joker had finally caught Batman. Yeah, Arkham Asylum’s development team needs to win an award for its trolling ability.
