What game doesn’t have a boss fight? Bosses have been emblematic of video games since the 80s and 90s, but as the industry has become more cinematic in recent years, ending the game on a defining moment or story point can be just as impactful as defeating a gargantuan boss. A good example of this would be The Last of Us as the final shot of the game is just someone’s face, but it was still a fitting ending to a game with such incredible storytelling. In this video, we won’t be solely focusing on final bosses, but all bosses.
If game developers are going to pit us against some all-powerful, all-seeing boss, it has to be done right. As the game builds you up to the boss fight, you’ve invested a good amount of time in the level learning methods of attack, tactical options and maybe even getting a new weapon. The boss should test the skills you have learned throughout the level. It shouldn’t be too easy, but it shouldn’t be too difficult. Developers should strive to find a happy medium. Sadly, there are some games that have such unfairly tough bosses, they completely ruin the game. The worst case of this is when you just breeze through the game without a single challenge and, all of a sudden, the final boss is impossible to defeat. We’re looking at you Sonic 2. Without further ado, here are 10 bosses so hard they ruin the game! Enjoy!
