The 10 Worst Gaming Companions

Video game companions are a staple of the industry. Sometimes they are the absolute best parts of a game. Who doesn’t remember all the times in Mass Effect when you were getting to know your squadmates on the Normandy. Ellie from The Last of Us was so good at depressing us as a side character that she got to depress us as a main character in The Last of Us: Part II. While there are plenty of side characters that make a game worth playing and replaying time and time again, there’s also the dark side to gaming companions. Characters who are so annoying that you loathe them more and more every time you play the game.

These range from the obvious choices like Navi from The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, Slippy Toad from Star Fox 64 or Ashley from Resident Evil 4. Then there are the ones that are beloved by some players but are absolutely HATED by others. The cousins of Russian gangsters who call you all day, the squadmate who betrays you in Mass Effect or the baby that Yoshi can’t help to save may have their fans but many gamers can’t stand them. Of course none of those can compare to the final companion who stands as the absolute worst of the worst. That would be none other than player 2.

So let’s jump right into the worst gaming companions in the history of the industry.
