On this episode of Head 2 Head, Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman pits two members of the “more than 600 horsepower club” against each other – the 2013 SRT Viper & the 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series. It’s a three-bout heavyweight match that begins with real world canyon carving, moves on to an all-out quarter mile drag race, and then finishes with blistering hot laps around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with hot shoe Randy Pobst.

Despite a huge gap in price, both of these long-nosed, front-engine, RWD, two-seat brawlers represent significant revisions of their wild predecessors. Will good old fashion American muscle beat out German Engineering? Join us as we find out.

We covet the giant hot wheels in the Chevrolet Performance booth, bench race the numbers on the Lucas Oil dyno and roll past Camaros, surf wagons and one-off trucks and rat rods, including a turbo-charged ’29 Model A! After a drive-in movie the gang hits the road in a Dodge Challenger, leaving tons of tire smoke behind as they head for Texarkana. In Arkansas there are more cars, more engines and more burnouts, and there’s still a week more to come!
