As a general rule, we tend not to associate comic book movies with shocking moments – as they’re generally fun, popcorn flicks that we can enjoy without a care in the world.

However, on some occasions, they have indeed provided us with moments that have shocked us right through to our very cores – and it’s happened for a wide variety of reasons.

In this video, we’ll take a look through just a few examples of when that was the case.

The comic book movies in question that shocked us are; 1978’s Superman movie (when Lois Lane was killed), 2000’s X-Men movie (when the opening prologue depicted a Nazi concentration camp), 2010’s Kick-Ass movie (when Hit-Girl said the worst word in the English language), 2011’s Green Lantern movie (simply because of how awful it was), 2012’s Avengers movie (when the writers managed to sneak in an old English swear word), 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (when Gwen Stacy was killed), 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier (when HYDRA were revealed to have been growing inside S.H.I.E.L.D.), 2016’s Deadpool movie (when parents took their kids to see it, when that shouldn’t really have been allowed), 2017’s Logan movie (when Patrick Stewart’s Professor Xavier dropped an F-bomb), and 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War (when Thanos snapped his fingers and erased half of all life in the universe).
