Remember the Oppo Find X? If you live in the U.S., probably not: it was a crazy smartphone that wanted to give you as much screen as your money could buy, so it stowed its cameras behind a motorized, sliding top. In 2018, at the near-nadir of smartphone design excitement, it was pretty awesome.
Well, in the world of 2020 smartphones have gotten a lot more ambitious. We’ve got three types of folding phone on store shelves; dual-screen phones are making a comeback; and I just this week saw a trio of crazy concepts from TCL straight out of a sci-fi future (see my Instagram account listed below for the hands-on). Against that backdrop, it’s tough to get excited about something as conventional as the Oppo Find X2 Pro. But with a display that pushes the limits of eyesight, a battery that charges insanely quickly, and the welcome return of the leather backplate … I couldn’t resist a quick hands-on with Oppo’s next attempt to Find X.
