The Mario Brothers franchise has been a staple of the video game industry since Nintendo became a household name. Through numerous main titles and a variety of spin-offs, Mario has captured the hearts of many gamers around the world. Every aspect of the Mario franchise has also worked it’s way into popular culture over the years and it’s nearly impossible to find someone who is not familiar with the princess rescuing plumber.
With Nintendo’s release of the new Nintendo Switch, it would be a misstep on their part to completely forget about their most beloved character. Fans can usually count on Nintendo releasing at least one new Mario title with every new console release and Nintendo did not disappoint. With the announcement of the Nintendo Switch at E3 2017, fans were certain they would see another new Mario title for the system and they were correct. Nintendo not only created a new Mario title specifically for the Switch, but they pulled out all the stops to create a truly unique Mario title which should prove to be inventive and, most of all, fun.
Super Mario Odyssey boasts new game mechanics as well as different outfits for Mario. Changes to Mario’s cap result in a new way to play the game as well as a new sentient friend for Mario in the form of Cappy. With dinosaurs roaming the Kingdom, Mario and Cappy can take control of various enemies throughout the game. With so many new additions to Mario, it’s easy to see that this game will be a hit upon its release in October 2017.
